Akane Okuma arrived at Aston Villa in July 2026 as a Japan international goalkeeper.

The 21-year-old began her career with JEF United Chiba before joining INAC Kobe Leonessa in 2024. The goalkeeper has represented Japan throughout the youth age groups and was part of the Nadeshiko Japan squad that won the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup alongside current Villa teammate Maya Hijikata.

Known for her distribution, composure and shot-stopping ability, Okuma now takes the next step in her career with a move to England and the Women’s Super League.
