Brian Sørensen expressed his frustration after Aston Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

Noelle Maritz opened the scoring after half time at Villa Park with her long awaited first goal in claret and blue, but the home side were made to settle for a point after Abbie Larkin's long range equaliser.

While Interim head coach Sørensen was pleased that his side were able to notch another point on the board, he felt that they deserved to take all three after dominating for large portions of the contest.

Speaking to VillaTV post match, he said: "I think the overall thing is we are disappointed not getting the three points.

"I think performance-wise, it was quite good. Another step in the right direction.

"(We) really dominated that first half. Disappointed going in half-time and not being in the lead.

"But I think what catches up with us in the second half is the accumulation of all the games we had. It was the fifth game in 14 days and we looked really tired at the end, unfortunately."

It has been a tough start to 2026/27 for Villa, who sit 12th in the table with three points from their first five games.

However Sørensen feels that they are moving in the right direction and need to keep believing.

He continued: "I just think we need that belief in it, because I know we have it in the squad to do it, to finish it off.

"So, you know, just that and a little bit of luck at times also. Sometimes that helps.

"The game was very lively there at the end, back and forth. It was also good that we didn't lose the one point that we had and secured that. "

Sørensen finished up by reflecting on the season so far, as the WSL now pauses for a two week break with players heading off on international duty.

"A tough (first) block, of course, with everything that happened," he explained.

"What I said to the girls, the only thing we can control is our performance and how we act as a team and a team-mate, us and staff and so on.

"We're going to be working super hard, making sure everything is prepped and ready when the girls come back from the international break."
